Kamla Persad-Bissessar wins T&T election
The United National Congress (UNC) led by Kamla Persad-Bissessar has won yesterday’s General Election in Trinidad and Tobago.
The UNC’s victory means the People’s National Movement (PNM) has been removed from government after a decade in power.
Last night, retiring Dr Keith Rowley who Stuart Young replaced as prime minister recently told supporters of the party’s defeat.
He said the population had chosen a “package of promises”.
Persad-bisaysa will be T&T’s prime minister for a second time.
In the meantime, Prime Minister Andrew Holness has extended heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Persad-Bissessar.
In a congratulatory letter Mr Holness said her success at the polls is an indication of the confidence of the people of Trinidad and Tobago in her leadership.
Prime Minister Holness highlighted the strong and enduring friendship between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago emphasizing the shared history, culture, and collaboration across regional and international organizations, such as Caricom, the Association of Caribbean States and the Organization of American States.
