St. Andrew North police assure residents that lawmen will maintain strong presence in Whitehall Avenue/Red Hills Road region
The St. Andrew North police have sought to assure residents, including the motoring public, that lawmen will maintain a strong presence in the Whitehall Avenue and Red Hills Road region.
This after the area was blocked last night by demonstrators.
Motorists had to use other routes due to the blockade.
The demonstration followed the police’s fatal shooting of the alleged don of 100 Lane, along Red Hills Road yesterday.
He has been identified as Shaquille Dawkins.
Reports are that at about 8 AM, police were conducting an operation in 100 Lane when Dawkins allegedly confronted them.
He was shot and wounded.
Dawkins was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Head of the St. Andrew North police, Assistant Superintendent Randy Sweeney, told IRIE FM News that cops ensured that the debris from last night’s demonstration was cleared.
He also reassured the public that the police are monitoring the area closely to ensure public safety.
Meanwhile, the 48-hour curfew that was imposed in sections of the St. Andrew North Police Division on Wednesday has been extended until 6 PM tomorrow.
The boundaries cover Red Hills Road, Pennant Terrace, Pennant Drive, and Whitehall Avenue.
During the curfew, all persons within the boundaries are required to remain within their premises unless otherwise authorized by the Ground Commander
