Senate approves Jamaica Teaching Council Bill to regulate teaching profession
The Senate has approved the Jamaica Teaching Council Bill 2025 which is aimed at regulating the teaching profession.
Education Minister Dr Dana Morris Dixon who piloted the bill said teachers will be required to be registered.
She said teachers who are not registered will have 2 years to do so when the bill is passed.
She said the legislation also has guidelines for parents who home school their children.
The Senate passed the bill with some amendments, as a result it will return to the Lower House for further approval, prior to being sent to the Governor General.
