Charles Jr urging people to become ambassadors of the Social Pension Programme
Minister of Labour and Social Security Pearnel Charles Jr, is urging people to become ambassadors of the Social Pension Programme.
The programme was conceptualized by the government to target assistance to seniors over the age of 75 who are without a pension or any financial support and who are not on the Programme of Advancement Through Health and Education (PATH).
During a tour of the ministry’s satellite office located at the Castleton Health Centre in St Mary yesterday, the minister encouraged persons to spread awareness about the programme and recommend prospective beneficiaries.
Meantime, he noted that yesterday’s visit was aimed at assessing the operations and effectiveness of the office.
The satellite offices provide critical social security services to residents in surrounding communities through several of the ministry’s programmes, including PATH, the National Insurance Scheme (NIS), Social Pension Programme and public assistance services.
These offices became operational at the start of the 2023/2024 financial year, with 26 satellite offices in operation across seven parishes.
Mr. Charles said he is very pleased with the operations at the facility in St. Mary.
