The National Road Safety Council will meet today to further discussions on promoting road safety and reducing the number of deaths on the roads.

According to data from the Island Traffic Authority, fatalities decreased by 21 percent when compared to last year, a difference of 27 fatalities.

As at yesterday, 104 road fatalities were recorded, resulting from 91 fatal collisions.

The NRSC will meet, as concerns remain over the number of collisions resulting in multiple fatalities and crashes at Flat Bridge in St Catherine.

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Strategic Operations Dr Gary Mckenzie updated Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness on road fatalities yesterday.

Dr Mckenzie told the prime minister that officers have noted that many crashes occur early mornings.

Meantime, Dr Holness said the legally allowed alcohol level in persons operating motor vehicles, could be discussed.

Dr Mckenzie stated that traffic cops have increased breathalyser checks.

Meantime, he told the prime minister that there has been a 36.9 percent reduction in murders and an 18 percent overall decline in major crimes.
