Utech president wants governmnet to outline how it intends to fund plan to make Jamaica STEM island

President of the University of Technology Dr Kevin Brown wants the government to outline how it intends to fund the plan to make Jamaica a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, (STEM) island.

Dr Brown notes that last year, Prime Minister Andrew Holness declared that Jamaica will become a STEM island, which he says is a good vision.

However, Dr Brown states that he has not yet seen the financial backing to accomplish the task.

He says while he understands Jamaica’s financial challenges, the country must create a plan and look at the island’s budgetary expenditures.

He highlights the need for Jamaica to adapt and be ready for the technological era.

The Utech president says focus must also be placed on ensuring that teachers are able to teach stem in an effective way and that stem teachers are paid properly.

He was speaking at the Organization Development Transformation conference yesterday.
