Dr. Carl Bruce to face trial in September following assault charges

Medical Chief of Staff at the University Hospital of the West Indies Dr. Carl Bruce is to go on trial in September in relation to allegations of assault.

Allegations are that on January 31 2007, Dr. Bruce, a consultant neurosurgeon, assaulted another neurosurgeon, Dr. Roger Hunter, at the hospital.

The two doctors reportedly had an altercation during which Dr. Hunter was allegedly pushed.

An internal report of the incident was allegedly made on the same day.

Last November, Dr. Hunter reported the matter to the police and Dr. Bruce was arrested and charged with assault and malicious destruction of property.

He appeared in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court today, where a trial date of September 29, 2025 was set.

Dr. Bruce’s attorney, Tom Tavares-Finson has denied the allegations.

Meantime, Dr. Hunter who does not yet have a lawyer said he is confident that justice will be served.
