Investigation to be launched into cause of fire at NMIA
An investigation will be launched today into the cause of a fire at the Norman Manley International Airport NMIA, in Kingston, last evening.
The airport’s operators PAC Kingston Airport Limited (PACKAL), made the statement this morning.
No one was injured in the fire which broke out at around 7:30 p-m, in the Club Kingston area of the terminal.
However, several flights were delayed.
The fire was extinguished by the Jamaica Fire Brigade late last evening.
Normal operations have since resumed at the airport.
Giving a preliminary account of the incident, last evening Commissioner of the Fire Brigade Stewart Beckford said it appeared the source of the fire was an air conditioning unit.
And, Transport Minister Daryl Vaz said there was no major damage to the facility.
