Fire damaged sections of Leeds Primary in St.Elizabeth, loss estimated at $50M

Fire damaged sections of Leeds Primary and Infant School in St. Elizabeth last night, with the loss estimated at $50 million.

The blaze destroyed the principal’s office, staffroom, a classroom and the library, leaving the school without electricity.

Acting Divisional Commander for the St. Elizabeth Fire Department, Superintendent Kimar Brooks, reported that firefighters responded to the blaze which started sometime after 11:00 P.M.

Superintendent Brooks provided an account of the incident.

Meanwhile, Principal Christine Dawkins-Beadle announced that classes have shifted to the online format today as efforts continue to accommodate students for learning.
