Portmore to soon get state of the art transportation centre

A proposal to make variations to the contract for the Portmore Resilience Park in St. Catherine, to facilitate the commencement of work on a state of the art transportation centre beside it, has been accepted.

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz outlined the proposal for the phased approach to the project to Prime Minister Andrew Holness during a tour of the park, yesterday.

Work on the park is expected to be done by the end of this year.

Vaz explained that the contract variation for the park will allow for expediting work on the centre, instead of having to wait months to complete new contract negotiations and procurement.

The minister said the new transportation centre, which will be on 5 acres of land next to the resilience park, is a well needed upgrade from the lay-by that is used now.

The lay-by lacks certain amenities such as shelter and bathroom facilities.

Vaz said now that the contract variation proposal has been accepted the Urban Development Corporation, which owns the land, will begin the process, in collaboration with the ministries of transport and economic growth and job creation.
