Playwright Everton Dawkins embarks on fundraiser for Guys Hill High

Renowned playwright, Everton Dawkins in the spirit of generosity is contributing to the development programme of the Guys Hill High School with a fundraiser play, The Watchman, on Saturday March 1, on the school grounds starting at 7:30 pm.

Dawkins, who has given Jamaica some of the most memorable plays for decades, says his team believes in contributing to school development and for years has conducted fundraisers for numerous schools across Jamaica including Edwin Allen, Holmwood and Excelsior High Schools.

The Watchman tells the story of a mother who went overseas during the pandemic and could not return home to her teenage children and their father because of flight restrictions. The father, played by Bashy, gets wind of inappropriate behaviour happening in his absence from home and employs a watchman to oversee things while he’s at work.

The teenage daughter eventually moves out because of the stringent rules implemented by the father and goes to live with an undesirable young man.  She eventually returns home after abuse from him and is welcomed by the family.  The cast includes Jenecia Salmon and Brad Tony Brown, former drama students who attended Guys Hill High School in St Catherine.

Everton Dawkins has written, produced and directed numerous other plays, including, Single Parents, Careless Mother, Passa Passa, Crazy Landlord and Man Fi get Bun.
