Williams says latest Fitch rating is a big deal

Finance Minister Fayval Williams says the fiscal year is ending strong.

She was reacting to the latest rating from International Credit Rating Agency Fitch, which affirmed Jamaica’s long-term foreign-currency issuer default rating at ‘BB-’, with the outlook remaining positive.

Speaking to Jamaica Labour Party supporters last night in her Eastern St. Andrew Constituency, Ms. Williams said the Fitch rating is a big deal.

She said this was against the background of Hurricane Beryl which negatively impacted several sectors, other weather systems as well as heavy rainfall for several weeks.

She said Fitch upgraded the rating in March last year and affirmed it last Friday.

Meantime, she told supporters that they should listen to the budget presentation on March 11, as it would be a good budget.

She stated that Fitch confirmed the rating because there would be a good budget.
