Geoffrey Maxwell has died
Former National football coach Geoffrey Maxwell has passed on.
The flamboyant Maxwell who coached the National senior team between 1988 and 90 was ailing for some time with Alzheimer’s disease.
Maxwell represented Jamaica as a defender in the 1970’s before transitioning into coaching.
He then led Excelsior to the Manning cup title back in 1980 and two subsequent Walker cup titles.
He managed Waterhouse, to their first National Premier league title in 1997.
Maxwell also coached Santos, Harbour View, Tivoli Gardens, Arnett Gardens, St George’s SC, the JDF, and Maverley/Hughenden, among others.
Maxwell created history as the first man to have actually coached in the Manning cup and in the Dacosta cup competitions in the same season, while both teams were still actively engaged in the competitions.
This was in 2016 when he managed Haile Selassie and Dinthill.
