Justice Minister urges more Jamaicans to utilize services provided by his ministry to resolve conflicts
Justice Minister Delroy Chuck has urged more Jamaicans to utilize the services provided by the Justice Ministry to resolve conflicts.
He laments that not many people are aware of the social justice programmes and that ministry teams have been visiting communities to increase awareness.
Mr. Chuck stated that the programmes are not only successful, but beneficial.
The Justice Minister said the courts are now using the programmes, which include: restorative justice, victim services and mediation.
He said the Ministry assists with the cost of mediation for those unable to afford it.
Mr. Chuck added that mediation has helped to reduce the backlog in the courts.
He was speaking yesterday at the Ministry’s Inaugural World Day of Social Justice Conference, held at the Jamaica Conference Centre in Downtown Kingston.
