Efforts being made by government to erect a temporary foot bridge in Craig Mill Portland
Effort is being made by the government to erect a temporary foot bridge in Crag Mill, Portland.
The update was given by Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie, who visited the site of the collapsed Old Craig Mill Bridge today.
He was accompanied by Works Minister Robert Morgan and Member of Parliament for West Portland, Daryl Vaz.
Mr. McKenzie said the Old Craig Mill Bridge will be declared a disaster by tomorrow, thereby triggering the emergency response through the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM).
Similar to what was done in Troy on the Trelawny/Manchester border with the installation of a temporary foot bridge, the intention is to provide residents of Crag Mill with a safe way of crossing the river while they await the replacement bridge.
He pledged that a new bridge will be put in as soon as possible.
