Kingston Mayor says KSAMC did not fund the political activity of any candidate
Mayor of Kingston Andrew Swaby says the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation KSMAC did not fund the political activity of any candidate.
His comment follows allegations of misuse of public funds for political purposes.
Speaking during today’s council meeting, Mayor Swaby said any claim that the KSMAC disbursed cash to individuals for political purposes is false.
Mr. Swaby also acknowledged alleged dialogue between People’s National Party General Secretary Dr Dayton Campbell and former PNP Candidate for Central Kingston Lawrence Rowe, regarding funds for divisions without councillors.
These divisions are Denham Town in West Kingston, Olympic Gardens in West Central St. Andrew and Chancery Hall in North West St. Andrew.
Mayor Swaby said he believes the money referred to in those alleged conversations is the 2.7 million dollars allocated legitimately, to each division.
Mayor Swaby reiterated that he would welcome and cooperate fully with any anti-corruption probe into the KSMAC.
