Police constable killed in motor vehicle collision in Unity Hall, St. James
A police constable died following a motor vehicle collision along the Unity Hall main road in St. James, yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as Alfredo Newman, who was assigned to the Hanover police division.
Reports are that about 8:30 a.m., Newman was driving his Honda motorcycle along the roadway, heading to Hanover, when the bike collided with a grey Toyota Wish motorcar, that was coming from Rhyne Drive.
It’s theorised that the Toyota Wish entered the Unity Hall main road just as the motorcycle was passing, resulting in the crash.
Newman sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The condition of the driver of the Toyota Wish is unknown.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force has expressed condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Constable Newman.
It said the chaplaincy branch and welfare department are providing support to those affected by the death of the cop.
