Cabinet sets up inter ministerial committee to deliberate and make recommendations on how to treat migrants returned from the US

Cabinet has established an inter-ministerial committee to deliberate and make recommendations on how to handle migrants returned from the United States.

Information Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon provided the update during today’s post-cabinet press briefing in response to reporters’ questions.

Concerns have been raised regarding the deportees, particularly those with criminal backgrounds in the U.S. and how these individuals are reintegrated into Jamaican society.

Dr. Morris Dixon emphasized that many of the returned migrants are generally law-abiding, hardworking individuals who committed immigration-related offenses.

She also noted that she, along with the Ministers of Labour and Foreign Affairs are members of the committee.

Dr. Morris Dixon noted that many of the returned migrants have skills that can be beneficial to Jamaica.
