Camperdown Classic set to celebrate 20th anniversary with star-studded lineup

Reigning world 400m champion Antonio Watson is among the marquee names confirmed to compete at this year’s staging of the Camperdown Classic.

The meet, now in its 20th year, takes place at the National Stadium on Saturday February 8 and features over 2,000 athletes from 85 schools and clubs.

Among the standout competitors are Olympic finalist Oblique Seville, national 400-meter hurdles record holder Roshawn Clarke, Malik James-King, Bryan Levell, Delano Kennedy, Demish Gaye and Zandrion Barnes.

The event’s schedule includes a wide range of track events, starting with the signature 100m race, which is expected to attract a bumper turnout, as confirmed by organizing committee member Courtney Brooks in an interview with Irie FM Sports.

In addition to the 100 meters, athletes will compete in the 60m, 400m, 800m, and the highly anticipated sprint medley. Relays, including the 4x100m and 4x400m, will also be featured, with both male and female teams vying for supremacy.

The field events are equally thrilling, with the high jump, triple jump, and pole vault set to feature 22 athletes in action. Participating teams can enter a maximum of three athletes per class for individual track and field events events and one relay team per class.

This year’s staging, which is officially sanctioned by the local governing body Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) along with ISSA and World Athletics.
