Alleged gang member fatally shot by police in Spanish Town, curfew imposed
An alleged gang member was fatally shot during a confrontation with the police in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, on Monday.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
The incident reportedly occurred shortly after 5pm.
Monday’s incident follows, the fatal shooting of alleged One Order gang leader Othniel “Thickman” Lobban last month.
Lobban was shot and killed by police in St. Andrew on January 22.
His killing led to unrest in St. Catherine.
School and business operations were disrupted as a result.
A State of Emergency was subsequently declared in St. Catherine north, including Spanish Town on January 28.
Meanwhile, a 48-hour curfew has been imposed in sections of Ellerslie Pen and Tawes Meadows in Spanish Town, St. Catherine.
The curfew began at 6 P.M. on Monday and will remain in effect until 6 P.M. on Wednesday.
The boundaries cover the Spanish Town bypass, Williams Street, French Street and Oxford Road.
During the curfew, persons within its boundaries must remain in their premises unless given permission by the ground commander, to leave.
