Taxi operators threaten to continue protests along Waltham Park Road until works begin

Taxi operators who blocked a section of Waltham Park Road in St Andrew this morning are threatening to continue protests until the government begins fixing the road.

The taxi operators and residents used burning tyres and other debris to block the road as they called for immediate rehabilitation.

According to the protesters, the thoroughfare, which has been in a poor state for years,  has  gotten worse, over time.

Speaking to reporters this afternoon, one taxi operator who did not wish to be named said that sewage water has been affecting the road since last year.

He said the road is in need of proper rehabilitation.

According to the taxi operator, residents have to use alternative routes due to the odour from the sewage water that settles on the road.

He claimed that businesses are also impacted.

He said there is also traffic congestion along the roadway throughout the day.
