Golding says government must engage team with respectable and valid arguments if it wishes to move forward with constitutional reform process
Opposition leader Mark Golding says the government must engage his team with respectable and valid arguments, if it wishes to move forward with the constitutional reform process.
Speaking at a party campaign launch in North West St. Catherine on Sunday evening, Mr. Golding maintained that the opposition will not allow Jamaicans to be conned into accepting what he called, a piece-meal approach to sovereignty.
His comment came in the wake, of his parliamentary caucus pausing its participation on the Joint Select Committee on Constitutional Reform.
As Jamaica seeks to sever ties with the British Monarch and become a republic, the opposition wants the nation to accede to the Caribbean Court of Justice, arguing that it will allow greater access to Jamaicans.
However, the Andrew Holness-led administration has chosen to remain with the United Kingdom-based Privy Council.
Addressing the matter again Mr. Golding said the time has long passed for Prime Minister Holness to explain his position.
