Second phase of the JECIP to be launched this month

The second phase of the Jamaica Entertainers and Creatives Insurance Plan, JECIP, will be launched this month.

 

Culture Minister Olivia “Babsy” Grange made the statement during the Annual Reggae Month Church Service at the Fellowship Tabernacle in Kingston, this morning.

 

Under the plan, coverage is provided for the group in an agreement between the ministry and Guardian Life Group.

 

Noting that phase 1 was launched in late 2024, Ms. Grange said that aspect focused on life insurance and will help to ensure that the situation faced in 2017 to 2018 will not be repeated. 

 

In that period,  of the 19 entertainers who died; 70 per cent did not have adequate insurance coverage to provide funding for suitable funeral arrangements. 

 

Ms. Grange noted that phase 2 of the plan will focus on health insurance.

 

This includes, hospitalisation, surgery, maternity, and overseas emergency medical care. 

 

She said the policy will be free.
