West Indies Women clinch dominant 106-run victory over Bangladesh to take unassailable 2-0 lead

The West Indies Women delivered a commanding performance at Warner Park in St. Kitts on Wednesday, as they secured a dominant 106-run victory over Bangladesh in the second T20 International. The comprehensive win gave the Windies an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, with one game remaining on Friday.

The day belonged to Qiana Joseph, whose scintillating half-century set the tone for the West Indies’ strong total of 201 for 6 from their allotted 20 overs. Joseph, who opened the batting, blazed her way to a career-best 63 off just 36 balls, peppering the boundaries with 9 fours and 2 sixes. Her blistering knock formed the backbone of the innings, and she was well-supported by Deandra Dottin, who played an explosive cameo of 49 from 20 deliveries. Dottin’s destructive hitting included 5 sixes and 3 fours, and together with Joseph, they shared a third-wicket partnership worth 63 runs.

West Indies’ captain Hayley Matthews also contributed a solid 27, combining for a 53-run stand with Joseph for the opening wicket. Shabika Gajnabi provided further support with a knock of 24, as the West Indies posted a formidable total. Fahima Khatun (3 for 38) and Rabeya Khan (2 for 26) were the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers but were unable to contain the Windies onslaught.

In reply, Bangladesh’s batting line-up was unable to cope with the pressure of chasing such a daunting total. The Windies bowlers were in fine form, with Cherry-Ann Fraser leading the charge, taking 2 for 15. Afy Fletcher (2 for 21) and Hayley Matthews (2 for 6) also starred with the ball, as Bangladesh could only manage a paltry 95 for 9 in their 20 overs. Shorna Akter (16), Lata Mondal (13), and Nigar Sultana Joty (10) were the only batters to reach double figures, with Sharmin Akter top-scoring with 22.

With the series now sealed, the West Indies will look to complete a clean sweep when the third and final match takes place on Friday.

Qiana Joseph was named Player of the Match for her match-winning performance.
