The Westmoreland police are investigating an incident where a 13-year-old boy died after allegedly shooting himself in the head.

The incident occurred in the Georges Plain community.

Reports from the police indicate that the boy was shot in the head sometime yesterday afternoon. He was taken to the hospital, where he died this morning while undergoing treatment.

Deputy Superintendent Shaunjay Mitchell, Head of Operations in Westmoreland says information suggests the teen was playing with the weapon at the time of the incident.

The teen’s death comes on the heels of Friday’s incident, in which a 12-year-old boy was shot and killed in St. Andrew after he, his mother and brother were ambushed by gunmen traveling on a motorcycle.
