Montego Bay Mayor Richard Vernon says efforts continue in St. James to reduce the parish’s homeless population.

Discussions have been ongoing at the St. James Municipal Corporation to develop strategies for reducing the number of homeless people, for over a year.

One of the ideas put forward was the creation of a transitional centre to help homeless people re-integrate into society.

Speaking with IRIE FM News, Mayor Vernon noted that while the centre has not yet been established, at least 5 homeless persons were removed from the streets last year due to the efforts of the municipal corporation.
