Professor Dale Webber appointed Jamaica’s first Special Envoy for Climate Change & the Environment

Former principal of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona, Professor Dale Webber has been appointed as the country’s first special envoy for climate change, the environment, matters of the ocean, and the blue economy.

Minister with Responsibility for the Environment, Matthew Samuda, says Professor Webber will hold the title of ambassador while serving in this role.

He explains that the need for this role has arisen due to the significant demands being placed on nations in the multi-lateral arena, to participate in meetings that focus on climate change, environment and ocean arrangements.

It’s also expected that countries will take stock of and evaluate the implementation of existing agreements, treaties and technical negotiations.

Professor Webber will report to the Prime Minister.
