Gramps Morgan & Ishawna face backlash for supporting Donald Trump

Gramps Morgan and Ishawna are under fire from fans after publicly showing support for Donald Trump, the 47th President of the United States.

Gramps, a member of the Morgan Heritage clan, sparked criticism when he shared a photo of President Trump on Instagram, captioned: “The people have spoken. Pray for the prosperity of America. @realdonaldtrump Congratulations and looking forward to the golden age.” He included the hashtag #positivemindset.

Fans flooded the comments with disappointment, with one asking, “Where’s your post for Martin Luther King Jr. and Marcus Garvey?” Another wrote, “Disappointed. Can’t support you or your family anymore,” while others threatened to unfollow him, labeling his support as a betrayal of Rastafarian principles.

Similarly, Dancehall deejay Ishawna faced backlash after sharing photos from Trump’s inauguration, captioned: “Presidential Inauguration 2025. It was an honor to witness this historical moment.”

Critics dragged her in the comments, with one user writing, “Supporting the man that doesn’t want equal rights and justice is wild,” and another adding, “This is such a disappointment.”

Trump’s inauguration has been controversial due to its overlap with Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday honoring the civil rights leader.  According to NPR, this is only the third time a presidential inauguration has coincided with the holiday, following Bill Clinton in 1997 and Barack Obama in 2013. The next overlap is expected in January 2053.
