Roje Stona and Shanieka Ricketts were crowned the national Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year for 2024 at the Prestigious 64th awards ceremony at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Friday night.

A graduate of Clemson University Stona was awarded his first National Sports Man of the year title, following a magnificent season in 2024 when he threw an olympic record of 70 metres in Paris to captured Jamaica’s first ever gold medal in the men’s discus event at an Olympic Games.

In the meantime Stona’s Olympic gold medal performance also won the People’s Choice Award. 

Kishane Thompson who won the silver in the men’s 100 metres final at the Olympic Games was the  runner-up to the Sportsman of the year.

Meanwhile, ricketts who leapt 14.87 metres to claim silver in the women’s triple jump at the paris games took the women’s award , with olympic 400metres hurdles finalist Rushell Clayton named as the runner-up

The MVP Track Club led by coaches Stephen and Paul Francis, became the first institutional recipient of the iconic award for their contribution to the sport of track field with the production of multiple track and field stars, which include Shelly Ann Fraser -Pryce, Elaine Thompson -Herah, Shericka Jackson, Melaine Walker, Asafa Powell and Tajay Gayle. 

The Chairman’s Award was presented to GC Foster College.
