While acknowledging the issues that exist in public health facilities, Government Senator Dr. Sapphire Longmore has pointed to significant improvement in the health sector in recent years.

In her State of the Nation address, Dr. Longmore said Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton has made significant inroads given what he inherited.

She said the number of nurses has increased from 4,669 to 4,741, while community health aides have increased to 2,210 from 893 in 2016.

Senator Longmore also pointed to improvements in health centres across the island as evidence of the work done by the current administration.
