Manchester police urges citizens not to protest against curfews following imposition of curfew in Porus
The Manchester police are urging persons who are reportedly instigating protests against curfews, to desist.
Head of the division, Deputy Superintendent Carey Duncan made the comment amid police intelligence that some influential community members are opposed to curfews because they adversely impact parties and other events in the area.
DSP Duncan noted that curfews are part of the police tool kit to restore law and order to affected communities, following a flare up in crime and violence.
This has been the case for Porus which is now under a 48-hour curfew.
It began at 6 o’clock Wednesday evening and will run until 6 p.m. on Friday.
The curfew covers Porus, Trinity, Hampton and Red Berry districts.
DSP Duncan said when peace is restored, the curfew will be lifted.
DSP Duncan noted that due to an increase in murders in the division last year, this year the police will focus on murder reduction.
At least 5 people were killed in Porus between September and December last year.
