Windies pacer Shamar Joseph nominated for ICC Emerging Cricketer Of The Year Award

West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph who produced an historic and spectacular test debut against Australia earlier this year, is on the list of nominees for the ICC’s Men’s Emerging Cricketer Of The Year

His spectacular display down under, helped West Indies win their first test match in Australia since 1997.

Having sustained a nasty blow while batting on the penultimate day of the test match, Joseph returned the next day and ran riot with the pink ball, to finish with bowling figures of 7 for 68, as the Windies inched past Australia by eight runs in a thrilling contest that levelled the series 1-1 – Joseph was named as the Player of the series.

Later in the year, Joseph was clinical in the home series against Bangladesh and South Africa, finishing with 12 wickets from three outings.

The Sri Lankan southpaw Kamindu Mendis who levelled Don Bradman’s feat, the Pakistan opener Aaim Ayub who inspired historic triumphs and the England seamer Gus Atkinson complete the list of men’s nominees.

There are no West Indian on the Women’s list of nominees, which is made up of stars from South Africa, Scotland, India and Ireland.

They are Annerie Dercksen of South Africa, Saskia Horley from Scotland, Shreyanka Patil of India and Freya Sargent from Ireland.

The winners of the ICC awards 2024 will be announced in late January 2025.
