Opposition: impact of Sting postponement should be considered within broader scope of entertainment industry issues
The Opposition said the true impact of the postponement of this year’s staging of dancehall show Sting has to be considered within the broader scope of issues within the entertainment sector.
Sting was slated to be held yesterday, Boxing Day, at Jamworld Entertainment Centre in Portmore, St. Catherine, but the organisers Supreme Promotions Limited announced that it had to be postponed after production company Clear Sound Production Services Group Limited, withdrew.
The production company cited a breach of contract due to the nonpayment of fees.
In reacting to the postponement, Opposition Spokesperson on Culture and the Creative Industries Dr. Deborah Hickling Gordon noted that employment and earning opportunities are still available at other events being held over the holidays.
Dr. Hickling Gordon said the situation with Sting highlights the need for a sustainable process of developing Jamaica’s entertainment industry.
She said an assessment of the industry after the December / January period will provide a better understanding of the impact that Sting and other mega events have on the country.
