Police have charged a man with the murder of veteran journalist Barbara Gayle.

He is 24 year old Travis Phillip Ellis of Gulf district in Gregory Park, St. Catherine. 

Along with the murder of Gayle, Ellis is also charged with robbery with aggravation in relation to the same incident.

Ms. Gayle’s body was discovered at her home in the Caymanas Estate country club in St. Catherine last Tuesday December 17.

The 77 year old woman was reportedly hit in the head and stabbed several times. 

Her cellular phone and vehicle were reported missing.

Investigators later located the motor vehicle along Dyke Road, in Portmore.

Further checks the following day resulted in the arrest of Ellis, in Grange Lane.

He was subsequently charged.

Ellis is also facing a charge of house breaking in relation to a separate incident at another house in the same scheme.
