Jamaicans should have no challenge obtaining chicken meat this festive period, following shortage concerns earlier this year
Jamaicans should have no challenge obtaining chicken meat this festive period.
Following the passage of Hurricane Beryl in July, there was increasing concern over the shortage of chicken in Jamaica.
In October, Agriculture Minister Floyd Green told IRIE FM News that the sector was experiencing a downturn of up to 15% with demand increasing to 30%.
The Ministry embarked on several initiatives to increase production levels in the poultry sector.
In an update this week, Mr. Green noted an overall increase in chicken production among both major and small poultry businesses.
He described the rebound as a remarkable feat, in light of the myriad of challenges faced by the agriculture sector this year.
