Jamaicans urged to be vigilant against human trafficking this Christmas season

Jamaicans are being urged to be vigilant against human trafficking this Christmas season.

National Rapporteur on Trafficking in Persons, Diahann Gordon Harrison says the risk of trafficking increases during the festive season because there is usually a desire for material things.

She says children, women and girls and migrant workers are vulnerable to human trafficking and may be targetted at holiday events or busy commercial centres.

Noting that there was a recent incident involving a Jamaican woman, Mrs. Gordon Harrison emphasised the importance of being alert.

She is also urging persons to educate themselves about human trafficking and share information about opportunities that seem too good to be true with a trusted individual.

Persons may report suspected trafficking activity to 119, 811, 311 or any police station.
