Veteran journalist Barbara Gayle found dead at her St. Catherine home
Police have launched an investigation into the death of veteran journalist Barbara Gayle, who was reportedly found with her throat slashed this morning.
Preliminary reports are that Ms. Gayle’s body was found at her home in St. Catherine some time after 11:00 A.M.
News of Ms. Gayle’s death has sent shock-waves through the media fraternity.
Among those who have expressed sadness at her passing is Minister of Culture, Gender and Entertainment, Olivia Grange.
In a statement, Minister Grange said Ms. Gayle’s death is tragic and another of the senseless killings bedeviling the society.
She expressed hope that those responsible for her murder will be swiftly caught and brought to justice.
Meantime, Information Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon has condemned the brutal and senseless murder.
She said the act of violence against a well-respected member of the media community is deeply disturbing and tragic.
The Information Minister called for justice to prevail and for the perpetrators to be brought to account swiftly.
She noted that Ms. Gayle, a distinguished court reporter for many years, was celebrated for her steadfast dedication to journalism, her commitment to truth, and her exceptional work in covering the Jamaican justice system.
Earlier this year, the Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) honoured Barbara Gayle for her outstanding contribution to the field of journalism and her immeasurable impact on the media landscape in Jamaica.
