Chair of the Jamaica Police Federation urges officers to keep their guards up

Chairman of the Jamaica Police Federation, Sergeant Arleen McBean, has urged members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) not to let their guards down as they go about their daily activities.

She gave the advice as she noted the brutal murder of Corporal Christopher Smith.

Corporal Smith died from gunshot wounds sustained during a robbery at a gas station along Beechwood Avenue, in Kingston, on December 6.

The Corporal drove his private motor car to the petrol station to purchase fuel, unknowingly entering an active robbery scene. As he waited to be served, one of the robbers shot him several times.

While noting the unfortunate circumstances of the Corporal’s death, Sergeant McBean pleaded with officers to utilize their training to stay safe.

While speaking at the weekend, at the funeral service for another slain cop, Constable Linroy Codner, Sergeant McBean reiterated the need for citizens to do their part in the fight against crime.

Constable Codner passed away on October 20, due to injuries he sustained in a hit-and-run incident on Friday, October 4.
