No decline in renewal figures at FLA despite increase in fees says CEO Dalling
Despite a recent increase in the renewal fee for Jamaica’s licensed gun holders, there has been no decline in the renewal figures.
That’s according to Chief Executive Officer of the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) Shane Dalling.
On October 1, FLA’s renewal fee jumped from $12,000 to $20,000 each year.
The fee for first-time gun license applicants increased from $12,000 to $30,000.
The increases, especially for renewals, were a sore point for several firearm owners, who claimed that the $20,000 was too high.
However, when questioned by IRIE FM News, Mr. Dalling says the FLA has been experiencing an uptick in the number of licensed gun holders, who show up for renewals.
He also notes an increase in the number of first-time applicants.
Before October’s increase, the FLA updated its fees in 2014, when renewals climbed to $12,000 from $8,000.
