Government to remove the tax on tips for hotel workers
Workers in the tourism sector who get gratuity or tips will soon be able to get the full amount. Currently, gratuity is taxed.
Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett has indicated that the government intends to remove the tax, allowing workers to take home more pay.
Mr. Bartlett noted that the improved pay will augur well for workers, who have been protesting about their wages and working conditions in the past few weeks.
He stressed that the workers are the backbone of the tourism industry, and measures must be taken to ensure that this winter tourist season is not destabilized.
