ITA calls on road users to assess behaviour as yuletide season approaches
Director General of the Island Traffic Authority, ITA, Colonel Daniel Pryce has called on road users to assess their behavior, as the yuletide season approaches.
He made the statement as he referred to the number of fatal road crashes since the start of the year.
According to the Road Safety Unit, 348 persons have died in road crashes since January.
According to Colonel Pryce, the festivities of the yuletide season increases the likelihood of more crashes, as such, road users must be extremely vigilant.
He added that the launch of the Caribbean Development Bank’s (CDB) Road Network Safety Assessment will aid Jamaica in achieving the United Nation’s target of reducing road crashes by atleast 50 percent by 2030.
The project is to be undertaken across the island with a view to developing a road safety investment plan to reduce road fatalities.
Under the programme, approximately 1,000 kilometres of roads across the country will be evaluated utilizing the International Road Assessment Programme (IRAP) methodology.
