Health Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, says Jamaica must move toward establishing a national health insurance programme, to address the growing challenges of healthcare sustainability.
Speaking at a forum yesterday on the theme “Envisioning Jamaica’s Health Future,” he emphasized that without such a system, the rising costs of healthcare will remain unsustainable.
He highlighted the current trajectory of healthcare costs and revealed that his ministry is exploring ways to renew financing models that are better suited to Jamaica’s evolving healthcare demands.
Meanwhile, he said the future of healthcare in Jamaica must move beyond just clinical treatments and shift toward a greater emphasis on prevention, starting with lifestyle choices.
