The National Parent-Teacher Association of Jamaica (NPTAJ) has requested an audience with Prime Minister Andrew Holness and the Ministers of Education and Transport to address the issue of the National School Bus System.

The organization’s request follows yesterday’s crash along the Bustamante Highway in Clarendon, which claimed the lives of two students and resulted in the injury of three others.

Dead are 12-year-old Richard Tulloch of Turner’s District, Chapelton and 16-year-old Jody-Ann Lodge of new Bowens District, both in Clarendon.

Noting that the bus system is of critical national interest, the NPTAJ says the meeting with the Prime Minister and his ministers should take place no later than Monday, December 9.

The NPTAJ says it has been calling for the establishment of the National School Bus System since 2010.

It urges the Prime Minister to step in and take decisive action to prioritize its implementation.

Following yesterday’s crash, Transport Minister Daryl Vaz said a proposal for the operation of rural transportation for students has been completed by his Ministry and will be presented to Cabinet next Monday.
