Jamaica Labour Party shocked by passing of Denham Town Councillor Jermaine Hyatt
The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has been plunged into mourning as another of its councillors has died.
Councillor for the Denham Town Division in West Kingston, Jermaine Hyatt passed away last night.
JLP Deputy Leader for Area Council 1, Desmond McKenzie confirmed Hyatt’s death in a statement last night.
He said Councillor Hyatt died at the Spanish Town Hospital after what is suspected to be a heart attack.
Mr. McKenzie said this is a trying time for the JLP as only a few weeks ago, Councillor Christopher Townsend of the Olympic Gardens Division died.
Mr. McKenzie who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Kingston West Constituency said he was stunned by the news of Hyatt’s untimely death.
The MP described the late councillor as a champion representative, who gave priority to serving the people of his division with distinction.
Meanwhile, tributes have begun to pour in for the late councillor.
On his social media pages this morning, Prime Minister Andrew Holness said the councillor was a committed servant of his community, who always strived to bring positive change to the lives of the people he served.
Kingston Mayor, Andrew Swaby also took to social media to pay tribute to the late councillor.
He described him as a brilliant, pleasant and promising leader who always carried himself with respect and humility.
Mayor Swaby also said Hyatt was an articulate advocate, and demonstrated true bipartisanship, contributing meaningfully to Municipal discussions and debates.
