Labour Minister says swift and decisive intervention needed to safeguard workforce from climate change impacts

A swift and decisive intervention is being recommended to protect the country against climate change and its impact on the labour force.
Labour Minister Pearnel Charles Junior made the comments yesterday during a Labour Talk Road Show in St. Ann, where the ministry launched the “Just Transition Project”.
The project focuses on labour market policies and looks at comprehensive strategies that address climate change and its effects on the world of work.
It will also highlight the significant impact climate crises have on workers and the urgent need for inclusive strategies that protect and empower all categories of workers.
Mr. Charles Junior said if the necessary measures are not in place, the impact will worsen conditions for the country.
The minister said it is the responsibility of everyone to protect themselves against climate change.
Mr. Charles Junior also highlighted the severity of climate change impacts on the labour market.
