Flash Flood Watch upgrades to Flash Flood Warning for some parishes

The Met Service has upgraded the Flash Flood Watch to a Flash Flood Warning for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St. Mary and Portland.

It has also issued a Flash Flood Warning for St. Ann.

Meantime, the Flash Flood Watch is being maintained for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St. Thomas, Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Catherine and Clarendon.

While a Flash Flood Watch has been issued for the remainder of the island.

The warnings and watches are effective until 5:00 p.m. today.

The Met Office said the broad trough across the central Caribbean continues to produce a large area of organized showers and thunderstorms across the region  including Jamaica.

Observational data indicate that light to moderate and occasionally heavy showers and thunderstorms have been affecting sections of all parishes, especially north eastern parishes.

The forecast is for periods of showers and thunderstorms to continue across the island, and especially eastern parishes for the next few days.

Due to the periods of rainfall over the last 3 days, there is a high possibility of ground saturation.

As a result, flooding and landslides will likely occur.

Additionally, fishers on the cays and banks, especially on the south coast, are urged to exercise extreme caution as sea conditions will continue to deteriorate in the vicinity of showers, thunderstorms and strong winds.
