JLP Chairman Robert Montague says the party must learn three lessons from the losses in last Friday’s by-elections
Chairman of the Jamaica Labour Party, (JLP) Robert Montague says there are three lessons the party must learn from the losses in last Friday’s by-elections.
The JLP was defeated by the People’s National Party (PNP) in the municipal by-elections in Morant Bay in St. Thomas and Aenon Town in Clarendon.
The JLP won the parliamentary by-elections in Trelawny Southern and St. Andrew North-Western.
The PNP did not contest those by-elections.
Speaking at the JLP’s 81st annual conference yesterday, Mr. Montague congratulated those who were victorious and urged those who were not, not to lose hope.
However, he said that there are three takeaways from the elections.
He said government must pay more attention to the poor and vulnerable, help more people to start and expand small businesses as well as treat party workers with better care.
Mr. Montague said the government has heard the cries of citizens and will be working to improve their situations.
