Vuvuzela ban at tomorrow’s JLP conference about health/safety; not intended to impact small vendors – Desmond Mckenzie
Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters will not be permitted to use vuvuzelas or horns at the National Arena tomorrow during the party’s Annual Conference.
Conference Chairman, Desmond McKenzie, who made the declaration at a press conference on Thursday, reminded supporters that the bell is the party’s traditional symbol.
Mr. McKenzie said the Vuvuzela ban is not about the effect on vendors but was done out of concern for supporters’ health and safety.
He cited action taken by some organizations, such as football federation FIFA, which proposed banning vuvuzelas from stadiums because they are deemed to be potential weapons, as well as research that highlighted a link between vuvuzelas and hearing loss.
