Holness says Bartlett has been tasked to resolve grievances affecting tourism workers

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett has been tasked to resolve the grievances affecting tourism workers.

He is assuring the workers that the matters will be addressed in a favourable way.

The move follows a number of protests by hotel workers in western Jamaica over pay and working conditions.

Mr Holness says he has been observing the frequent reports of industrial action.

He notes the importance of the tourism sector as the largest foreign exchange earner and a significant contributor of revenue and taxes to the government.

Pointing to the growth in tourism, Mr Holness says workers also want to grow, noting that the government hears their concerns.

The prime minister says he met with some investors in the sector on Friday and the discussions underscored the need for stakeholders including the workers to be happy.

Mr Holness says the government cannot allow grievances to derail the sector.

He stated that there are those who want to take advantage of the grievances and are fuelling industrial action for point scoring for political power.
