Jamaica now has data to aid its response to violence against children, with the release of the  2023 Violence Against Children and Youth survey.

The survey found that over 43,000 cases of child abuse were reported to the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) between 2019 and 2020. 

The survey report was handed over to the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), at a launch ceremony, in Kingston, yesterday. 

PIOJ Director General Dr Wayne Henry said the numbers represent an average of 60 cases being reported each day.

Dr. Henry noted that the response to violence requires having timely and reliable data. 

He pointed out that children and youth must be active partners in the fight against violence.

He said they must also be provided with a comfortable environment free from harm.
